The EPA says you should have your carpeting steam cleaned at least once a year. 

Well I never did this, and I'm a cleaning professional for over 10 years.

The truth is most people (maybe you!) are a lot like I was.....

My carpet was filthy.  It hadn't been cleaned in several years -- surely I had never cleaned it, and who knows if the previous owner ever had.  At this time I had been in the professional cleaning industry in one way or another since about 1981,  so I took my knowledge and experience down to the local home improvement store and rented some carpet cleaning equipment.  About $40.00 and 5 hours later I stepped back to examine my work.

Boy, was I dissapointed!   All that time and effort and the carpet was still dingy, matted and dirty by the doors and down the hall, and the stain where my daughter had dropped a plate of spaghetti was still there!  To make matters worse, the previous owner had dogs, and it was still evident that they had used a corner of the family room as a toilet.  I had to conclude that professional carpet cleaners were not using rented equipment.

Then, one of my office cleaning accounts hired a company to come in and clean their reception room carpet.  I was shocked by how poor a job they did.  And these were professionals, using professional equipment.

So I started researching.  I looked at every different type of equipment, chemicals and techniques that I could find.  As a matter of fact, I still spend several hours a week keeping myself up to date on all the latest stuff.  Finally,  I decided on what I needed to purchase and CARPETEK was born!
